Within the group study of the realms within Antigone, I was intrigued by the post modern analyzation within the modern day tragic hero within literature. Unlike typical tragic heroes of the past, modern day tragic heroes do not need to come from a high estate or standpoint within society. The modern hero may also not come to the realization of their mistakes by the end of the piece. This differs from the typical tragic heroes I have personally studied because the ending usually concludes with a large epiphany. We also find that unlike stories like Antigone by Sophocles that the Modern day hero may not even come to a resolution, or die like the character in question Antigone. The aspects that remain the same are that all of these characters meet some sort of demise, and are personally responsible for their own personal fate. They show us the importance of plain old mistakes, and the important irreversible mistakes. This lecture allowed me to delve into my own life and think about how all of my important decisions have affected me and those who are around me. For example, attending Farmingdale, and taking this class. I have been able to dive deeper into the literature and my own brain than I ever believed was even possible. Without making this irreversible decision (for the time being), I was able to appreciate my own mind and intelligence then I ever deemed possible.
