Reaction to English 102~

I believe I gained an extremely great amount, and new sense of knowledge. From the ideas of delving into literature, and the characteristics that make tragic heroes, to the inferiority of women in society, and the parallels between rap and poetry. I've seen myself personally dive deeper into my writing that I ever deemed possible. This course allowed me to see the great deal of intelligence I had, and was never aware of. I found myself thinking about the subject matters outside of the classroom and relating them to my own life. It shocked me that one class could totally open my mind to so many subject matters that I never even payed much mind to.

The idea that truly resonated with me was the idea of convincing oneself that their lies are truth; the facade. Throughout life I have met people who live based upon their own lies, and act as if they are better than myself and others because they are a factor of their own misfortunes. Many people in this world spread hate and are unkind because of problems and situations within themselves. When being a factor of this sad trait it at least for me was very unclear why I was being treated this way. After years of learning and this class specifically I can see past the walls of those who are mean. I always say kindness is free, and our world will be a better place once everyone can be kind and spread love, opposed to the high levels of negativity.

These ideas relate to the other topic that resonated with me. I truly wasn't so taken by the topic of the inferiority of women at first. I'm all for the empowerment of any person because in my mind we are all equals and each individual human deserves to be happy. Sadly, I have been aware of the divide in history between men and women, and the inferiority of women in the workforce, but other than that I really didn't dive in so deeply. Once I completed the pieces Antigone by Sophocles, and A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, I was able to open my mind to more the these simple ideas I have known for a great deal of time. I liked the way in which I opened my first paper by explaining, "Throughout global history one of the most catastrophic social separations implemented in society is the inferiority of women". This began the thoughts within my past knowledge, and new found insight following the texts and the class lectures.

Throughout my recent years I have used writing as a form of self expression to help gain a greater sense of self realization on a variation of life situations. In five years I can see myself continuing this tactic, and becoming more of an intellect within society. I want to be respected, and looked upon in a positive light by my peers, and possibly new coworkers five years from now. Wherever I belong I hope to have a high level of respect for my thoughts, opinion, work ethic, and possibly writing that I choose to share.
